What are some good treats to give to a Dwarf Hamster as well as regular foods besides the packaged stuff?

Answers:
Please don't give your dwarf hamster any treats that are commercially made. These little guys have very specific dietary needs that differ greatly from a Syrians, they must be feed the same diet as a diabetic hamster. They are too high in sugar and dwarfs are prone genetically to getting diabetes. They also cant have dried or fresh corn, peas, carrots either for the same reason. Forget giving fruits they are too high in sugar too. No nuts of any kind either, they are very high in fat and fat leads to an obese hamster, which can lead to the diabetes too. The same is for the sunflower seeds remove them and only give 1-2 per day for a treat and throw the rest away. Instead give them some dandelion leaves out of your yard but only if there's no chemicals used on it and rinse well. Some other things to give are cucumbers, dry sugarless cereal, small piece of celery, crickets bought at the pet store or meal worms from a pet store.

I have a lot longer list specifically for a dwarf/diabetic hamster (lists are same for both). Email me directly at woldinator25840@yahoo.com Subject: dwarf diet.
