What can you do for a dog?

what can you do for a dog that does nothing but freakin scratch all the time? I have gave her I dont know how many baths and still all she does is stratch. Its starting to get on my nerves.lol just kidding but really is there anything I can do for her?
Answers:
You said your dog itches alot and yo have given her several baths. I agree it could be skin allergies, but with all the baths you have given her, it could be severe dry skin problems. Giving a dog too many baths can affect their skin. I would recomend taking her to a vet. The sooner the better. I have 2 miniature pinschers, 4 five week old puppies and 1 shepherd %26 husky mix. I give them baths every other month. That's about every six weeks. I the winter, I bathe them twice, and that is only if they need one. Good Luck!!
Your dog most probably has either severe allergies or fleas.

I would take your dog to the vet. There are medications for your dog that will subdue the itch from allergies.

In addition, you can get a "V" collar which keeps them from using their teeth to itch, which is a leading cause for injury for a dog's skin.
Did you give her a flea bath? A flea collar and don't give baths except for fleas. That will only irritate and dry the skin and make it worse.
you need to take to the vet and find out if its a mite or an allergy issue.
Dogs scratch. They may lick once in a while but they mostly scratch. Even the cleanest ones do. There are mites buried in their skin and not even the vet can take them all out. It's part of being a dog. What can you do? Next he comes near you, scratch him.
Here's a shocking, radical, off the wall idea:

Take your dog to a vet!
too many baths cause dry skin,do u see fleas, maybe have lice?if no bugs try T Gell shampoo/or oatmeal hair conditioner,it might be having a reaction to food or cleaners/shampoo/rugs etc .could of been an acquired habit..
our dog was doing the same thing and we bought a "stop itch" for humans (cream) and it seems to have worked! if you are in Queensland it could have Queensland itch, if so, you need to go to the vet.
Try not giving her a bath for a while, see if that helps!

Try switching foods. Try one that has a low-allergy formula. If you really want to go this way, try foods that don't have too many different ingredients at once (like "chicken" instead of "assorted meats") so if food has something to do with it it won't be too difficult to find what works and what doesn't. Try a lamb-base, a chicken-base, a fish base, etc.

Obviously you should consult the vet, but they can't always help with this problem. Antihistamines aren't always very helpful with dogs. Some steroids will help, but you should only use them under veterinary supervision.

Some times you just have to live with it. A friend of mine tried everything for her lab %26 nothing worked. Her vet had her try this super-expensive experimental medicine and even that didn't work.

I know it's hard to see your poor dog scratch %26 scratch %26 scratch without being able to help. Best of luck!
The more baths you give her, the worse she may be! Bathing strips the natural oills from the skin, and makes the skin itchy and dry.
Your dog may have an allergy. It may be food, or something environmental. Best thing to do is to take them to a vet, and ask to start allergy testing. Generally they start with food tests, as these are easier and less expensive.
A vet should also be able to give you something to ease the itch (and the scratching!), until you've worked out what the problem is.
Many, many reasons!

Please, stop giving her one bath after another. You making matters worse.

When people constantly wash their dogs, they are destroying the natural Ph levels, the skin dries out and becomes itchy.

I think if she would have fleas, you'd know. Do NOT use any flea products unless you know for sure it's fleas, and then please, only use what your vet will give you, like for example REVOLUTION, which is absolutely great.

Everything else is harmful and harsh. Hartz products have even caused toxic and deadly reactions.

Otherwise:

She could be allergic.

Does she have a cedar dog bed? Many dogs are terrible allergic to cedar.

Do you use carpet chemicals when you vaccum?

What do you feed? When a dog shows allergies, THE BEST and first step to take is always, always, always check the quality of the dog food you are feeding.

Example: A client of mine fed Kibbles 'N Bits. Their dog had terrible allergies, scratching, fur missing, wounds from biting herself.

The vet gave them pills and administered shots.

I thought it was a terrible vet, out to make money instead to cure the dog, he masked the problem.

I told them to put the dog on a corn free, bha/bht free, artificial color free/artificial flavor free, diet.

The dog went on Nutro Natural Choice and within 1 month her coat was thick, luster, shiney. She also stopped shedding, she stopped itching.

Some dogs have mites. Genetic mites are terrible. Most dogs from bad, bad breeding background have genetic/inherited mites.

Here is what you do:

Stop washing her so much.

Check your/her environment for stuff which could cause her to itch.

Check the dog food you are feeding (IAMS is, for example, a terrible food. Beneful is also garbage, etc). Read the ingredients.
Change brand of food if needed (Nutro ULTRA, Nutro Natural Choice, Blue Buffalo, INNOVA, Nature's Receipe, Flint River Ranch... just to name some, are great).

If no difference, if no fleas, get a skin scrape done!
Have the vet check for mites and genetic mites.

Best of luck!

Btw. Quick personal tip: I thought up an idea on how to release the itch:

Buy oatmeal, mix with plain yoghurt. Put it all over her (In bathtub). If she licks it off, no big deal, the yoghurt cultures work in and out.
Let it sit for 20 minutes, then rins off with warm water, do NOT shampoo her!!!
may be you are bathing to much depending on type of dog
or try a differnt soap some thing than is not medicated
I know what you mean !!! it gets on my nerves!
Well we got her (Maggie) while we lived in Arkansas and thought that maybe it was fleas? well that was some of it we gave baths and treatments and nothing.
We moved back out to Arizona and brought her with of course and she has stopped for the most part, the vet just said it was probably a skin condition she lost allot of hair but now she seams to be doing quite well
every now and then she will get going but not bad maybe allergies?so apparently climate has some thing to do with it.
Maybe depending on where you live you could try a humidifier or a more suitable shampoo for allergies might work . Hope that helps

What can we humans do to stop abusing animals?

Answers:
Gave them death row!!!
Take action yourself - be kind to your pets. Report animal abuse to the authorities. Do your part to save the environment. Support your local Humane Society (with donations of money, items and time - volunteers are always needed).

You can't control other people, but you can control yourself. Change needs to start at home.
Anytime some dirtbag abuses or neglects an animal he should be put in a database like child molesters and thrown in jail for the same time as if he did it to a child.
Education is the key. Some people are unaware of the correct and humane way of treating animals.
Basically we can only control our own behavior. But you can set a good example for other people to follow. Spay and Neuter your pet and spend lots of time with him or her! Show other people how easy it is to be a good pet owner. The examples of good pet owners we have out there the better!
Do not support and buy from large coorporation meat industries. That means no more Mcdonalds etc.
Treat animals well as an individual. Report abuse. Teach children to respect animals. Educate the public. Support legislation to improve the protection of animal rights. Stand up. We are their voices.
What do you mean?

It's not like a 12-step program. You either do or you don't.

The best way we humans can stop abusing animals is to NOT ABUSE THEM.

If you mean "What is the best way to stop animal cruelty in the world?", then the answer (in my opinion) is to help and support your local SPCA.
What I think is a biggie is to teach kids how to treat pets. I went to an after-school day care and did a talk about pets and their care. Afterwards one boy called the cops because his mom's boyfriend would shoot bb's at the dog to threaten them. He could have grown up thinking that was normal. Talk to kids. It really makes a difference.
Preventing animal abuse starts right in your own home and neighborhood - love your own critters and don't be afraid to report an obvious case of animal abuse! The people on the front lines of animal welfare (shelters, rescuers) are almost ALWAYS looking for volunteers and funding. One of my local humane societies had a story in their newsletter about a gentleman who takes his lunchbreak at the shelter - he comes in a couple times a week to play with the cats. Even something as simple as that can help acclimate a scared pet and make it more adoptable. :-)

Here's a big one: if you donate to an animal cause, make sure your money is actually going to help animals. Several prominent animal rights and animal welfare organizations have come under fire in the past few years because they've lost sight of their true mission or even misrepresented their goals. Please, check up on the organization if you're thinking about making a donation. When animals are suffering and rescue organizations struggle to stay afloat, we can't afford to let our donations go to waste!

If you eat animal products, consider supporting a local organic farm instead of the "factory farming" monopoly.
Your wallet is a powerful lobbying tool...

What can we do about animal rights?

Answers:
first, start off by becoming a vegetarian and stop using products that are tested on animals..
I love animals. But you should worry what we do about our rights and children. There is harsher punishment for hurting animals than children. I am all for eat less meat don't wear fur. But I am concerned more about human rights. We have fewer daily and freedom is becoming less.
Becoming a part of the government. Only in changing laws can you change the way animal rights is 1. Viewed and more importantly 2. Acted apon.

I believe it is niave to think that just because you munch on a peice of celery instead of a steak it will change animal rights. It starts with people in power that can change the laws regarding health standards, puppy mills, animal testing etc. and the way the general public see things.
stop this that will be step one

What can u name a female horse?

a rare name please
Answers:
Red Dawn if shes reddish!
Strawberry
Mines Tinkerbelle.

Why dont you go to www.babynames.com and find one there.
jazzy? thats my friends horses' name.
Betsy-Lou
I would name it something like LIBERTY, FLOWER, JONEY. Something that maybe has a meaning behind it. Like flower would mean that that horse it very gentle and loving.
What breed, what color? The breed I have has to have a Spanish name, so we would usually go with a marking or a trait or a color, then translate it into Spanish.

For instance, my last mare had an interesting mark on her face that looked like a little crown. We called her "Cori," short for "Coronada," which means "Crowned One." When we got our stallion my husband just wanted a name with "eagle" in it. Because he was a very dark bay I named him "Aguila de la Noche" - "eagle of the night."
show names: Strawberry daquiri, cloud dancer, cookies N cream, regular names: Sundance, Daybreak, Cloud
It really depends on the breed and type of horse. Being a mare (female) it needs to be girly, but it also depends if dhes a pony a cob or a hack. If shes under 14 hands, a pony, then something cute and tough, like Ginger, or Taylor or even Chilli, a Cob, is anything from 14 to 15 hands, theses are teh heights of working type horses, and general riding horses, good for children and adults, names such as Belle and Jasmin, a Hack is a haorse over 15 hands,m the giants of the equine world, names such as Bessy for a heavy horse, or Polly for a Hunter, look at her and figure out her personal traits, if she likes carrots or apples, or if she enjoys a frolic in teh sun or prefers to laze around and munch all day.

Other unuasual names:

Jazz
Rhapsody
Honey
Bella
Polly
Scout
Merrylegs
Fairy
Bonn Bonn
Enchantment
Luna
Sooty
rhianne

Anything goes

What can small hamsters be fed?

??
Answers:
well they have special food and treats at walmart and the pet store and don't fed them any human food or chocolate or any veggies or fruits from the store or stand the have pestides they human can handle but a hamster cant just stick with hamster treats and food
I had a dwarf hamster and his favorite thing was cheerios. He also like waffles with maple syrup. Of course, I fed him hamster food, but I always gave him people food as a special treat. Try giving him a little taste of whatever your eating, you'll be surprised at the things he really likes.
The same thing as any hamster - hamster mix. They need this specially prepared diet to provide for all their nutrient requirements

As for treats - best just to stick with ones specially for hamsters, like hamster yoghurt drops, milk drops and chews or fruitnut sticks. There's plenty of variety in petshops to keep him happy!

Chalice
What nobody has pointed out which is critical is that some Dwarf Hamster species (namely the Campbells Russian) are known to suffer from Diabetes which can be brought on by too much sugar being in the diet. So giving them feeds high in sugars is not a good idea, this includes store brought treats and things you'd eat yourself!
If you want to give them a more natural treat, why not try giving them a few rolled oats, or a millet spray?
hamster mix, fruits, cheerios, spaghetti-dry, veggies etc.

What can I major in if I want to get paid and get to work with animals, but not have too much schooling?

I don't want to be a vet (I can't give shots or kill animals or see them die), or a trainer of any sort, and I want to get paid enough to support myself, my 6 pets, and my horse. Also, I don't want to do TOO much more than 4 years of college, I would do a few extra years. Thanks!
Answers:
Work toward a business degree and focus on customer service and marketing (sales, accounting and management are also great areas of study.)

You can do anything if you know how to promote yourself and retain customers. From this point, you can decide from a whole range of options including: pet business owner (from dog training to pooper-scooper services and everything in between), managing a pet store or large vet clinic, managine or operating a kennel or doggy day care, horse facilities, etc.
vetinary assistant
A vet Tech I think it takes 2yrs
A veterinary technician would be a good choice.
"The education required for a veterinary tech ranges from a 2 year associate degree to a 4 year bachelor鈥檚 degree. Depending on the school, these programs may be called veterinary technology or animal health technology programs. Graduates of 4 year programs often have a greater level of responsibility on the job than 2 year graduates, and may earn a higher salary. These graduates are sometimes referred to as veterinary technologists, while graduates of 2 year programs are called veterinary technicians." "Techs are generally responsible for the care of animals, as instructed by veterinarians. They may restrain and handle animals during examinations, perform lab work such as blood tests and urinalysis, and take and process x-rays. In addition, veterinary techs assist veterinarians with surgical procedures by monitoring the animal鈥檚 heart, pulse, blood pressure, and breathing during anesthesia and surgery. "
Also, animal caretaker would allow you to work with animals and for this you actually need no more than a high school diploma.
Then of course you could always consider working with horses. There are often no particualr requirements, but you could probably take veterinary courses and then get a job making sure race horses and such are in good shape.
You could run a kennel for dogs and cats and/or a stable for horses.

You could also be a pet sitter (although that probably doesn't pay too well).

You can also work at your local animal shelter.
I'm going to school for business. i going to open my own pet store %26 run adoptions in it. this way i can still help strays. later down the road when things are doing well, i am also going to open an animal sanctuary for pets who never get adopted %26 will have to be other wise put down. :)
Work as a tech for a veterinarian, they are up close and personal with the animals.
It you are willing to do some hard work, go to school for a biology degree with a focus on zoology...That's what I'm doing, and I plan on working for rescure groups, but I have also taked to some of the trainers at zoos and SeaWorld and they told my I'm on the right track to work for them...
It also helps, to get a job working with other animals while in college...I've been working at PetStores and a PetCare Specialist...basically I take care of the small animals, birds, reptiles and fish in the store...The killer whale trainer at seaworld told me she started the same way...
You can also try to volenteer for different vets, or get some internships...
You have to get a lot of experience and work your way up...

Hope this helps...GOOD LUCK!!!

What can i feed my kitten to fatten her up?

I just recently found it under my house and its very skinny-you can feel its ribs and spine..ive been feeding it dry cat food for the past 4 days (how long ive had it) and it hasnt put on any weight, is their anything that can help it gain weight?
Answers:
Get hills AD from the vet, special food for cats who had operations or are recovering.Highly nuticient and very healthy-also they absolulty love it!
i fed my siamese with chicken (cooked). try that
cottage cheese
cream cheese
Put her on canned food and take her to the vet to make sure she doesn't have worms.
Don't feed it cottage cheese or cream, most cats don't tolerate dairy foods very well.

Try bacon fat. this will put some meat on it's bones for sure, (just make sure it has some water to drink afterwards.) You can even use this stuff to train it to come when you call.

Canned food also works well, since it's usually easier to digest.

Also I would take it to the vet to get vaccinated and checked for worms.

Be sure to have it neutered or spayed, once it is about six months old.

Good luck,

What can i do?

my hamster its a boy teddy bear hamster and its brother cut him right under the eye like were a girl would put on maskara thats were it got cut it looks like its torn sorta and i just dont know wat to do can someone help we please he is my best friend and i could never lose him
Answers:
Take him to your vet, sweetie. If he or she doesn't treat hamsters, ask if they can recommend a vet who does.
I'm sure your little teddy bear will be just fine. I'll certainly keep a good thought for him. And you.
You need to take him to the vet. There is always a risk of infection with cuts. The vet can give antibiotics to ensure that there is not infection. Be sure this is a small animal knowledgeable vet. Look for vets that specialise in exotics.

You need to separate the hamsters. Hamsters are solitary animals and need to be kept separate. They will kill each other over territory.
males separate them, they fight often
Hamster's eyes are tiny and very difficult to treat unless you're an expert. Why not take it to a vet?

If u really can't afford try wash the wound with cotton bud first and apply any type of iodine. (Must be for treating wounds NOT experiment iodine)

What can i do to stop my rabbit from biting me?

my rabbit is about 3months old, hes really sweet he loves to be fussed, when i feed him he comes to the front of the cage to see me, but when i hold him he bites me, i don't know if he does it to be nasty or hes just nibbling my clothes, but i cant stop him from doing it and my husband has told me to get rid of him, but i cant because ive grown attached, has anyone got any advice for us so i dont have to get rid of him
Answers:
Firstly all these people talking about putting the rabbit in a stew are sick - why even answer if you dont want to help???
My rabbit is nearly 1 year old now and shes great really friendly although sometimes when you pick her up she can get anxious and twist and turn kicking out with her back legs - but this happens generally when I haven't got her held as securely as she likes because all i have to do is put her down again and lift again and shes fine- maybe your rabbit doesn't feel secure? Also not all rabbits like being held is he only biting when you actually lift him and not if you just put your hand in the cage? As for what other people have said about the smell of food on your hands that could well be it as that has happened a few times with my rabbit too - she so greedy!!
I would suggest taking some time when you're calm and the house is quiet putting a towel over your lap and just sitting with him talking to him quietly and stroking or grooming him and making him feel safe (without any food) and see how that goes, whatever you do don't avoid handling him - it will only make it worse.
Put it in a pie. That should sort it.
Wash your hands , they may smell like carrots !!!
Bite him first. Show that rabbit who's boss. If that doesn't work, I have a succulent rabbit stew recipe
I've been stewing over an answer for this but don't know what to suggest.
have a **** over the rabbit if it is sweet
Rabbits are wild animals and they are not ready for domestication.

If you had a black bear as a pet would you wonder why he ripped off your arm and mauled you? lol

Get rid of it, or eat it.

Cheers
Buy a leather gloves (special gloves available for handling such pets) and handle him with the gloves. Once he has realised that it is no use biting he will mend his ways. Good luck.
Feed him Spinach !!
Shoot it.
Well, if you've touched it may smell the food on your fingers and think your fingers are food. But, sometimes if you take the rabbit away from its mother too soon they wont stop nibbling at you because its looking for milk.If that happens it will do that the rest of it's life. But, don't worry because he's not trying to hurt you.but, if there's a white foam coming out of it's mouth it has rabies so take it too the vet immediately!!!!Anyway, I hope you liked my answer!!
A small Muzzle should work until he/she is more comforatble with you The reason He/she Bites is that some animals just do not like being held. This is another way to stop it from biting you! Also try leather gloves. If all of these suggestions do not work and you insist on keeping him/her.
Maybe a trip to the dentist to remove his/her teeth would work
Sorta drastic measure but I am sure it will work

:-)
If he's a buch he could think you are his mate ezpecially if you are the only one that handles him, I would stress he isn't being nasty and i agree with you that it seems a bit harsh if you love him so much getting rid. You could get him castrated you know it really settles them down and by doing this it will get rid of a lot of his male hormones and you will definately see a marked improvement.
i see this alot.as male rabbits mature the testosterone levels grow.many male rabbits become pretty mean little things.i.ve seen a rabbit that used to attack a boxer dog that lived in the same house.the boxer would often be injured pretty bad.the owner had the rabbit neutered and it was like a new rabbit.it does seem abit early for all that at 3 months so it could just be he's not very tame yet.see your vet about what age u should think about neutering as it could make a big difference hope this helps x
Bunnies nip for various reasons, so he sounds like he's just being a brat. A deliberate bite is much harder and will draw blood.

What can I do to help my pet rat to eat her food as she looks like she has had a slight stroke?

She is 27months old
Answers:
Give her another little stroke to cheer her up.
try blending her food and using a syringe to put into her mouth
Has she been seen by a vet, to determine what actually happened? Owner 'diagnosis' only goes so far, and when your rat isn't eating, it isn't something to continue to take into your own hands. If she's unable to eat, you can offer baby food, to see if it's just solids that she is having complications with.
Take your pet rat to the vet ASAP. You need to find out for sure whether she has has a stroke or not. Although your rat is quite old, it could also be an ear infection. One of my pet rats had an ear infection which I thought was a stroke and it stopped eating for a few days aswell.
Not sure about the food thing, however Give her HALF a small soluble aspirin twice a week in her water, this can help prevent another stroke.

Good luck, Rats make great pets, so cleaver and friendly.
you could start feeding her bread dipped in milk by hand i read it in a book
call rentakill, rats are vermin you know.
I would take her to the vet to find out what the cause of the problem is.
Puree her food and give it to her in a dropper.
time out is near maybe! but very earley. give her all the treats you can find for rats, cuddle her , love her . I hope she recovers I have two but a bit older than yours,

What can i do to get pet odors out of the carpet?

Answers:
Dilute white vinnegar to 50% with water, saturate the area with the mixture and let sit for 1-2 hours, then shampoo the area with an extractor!
well you can go to the petsmart or grooming store and get something that only use on inside house carepets in case youre dog went poops or pee , it call the nature's miracle stain%26odor remover product plastic bottle .
First of all you've got to clean under the carpet. If you've done that then they have spray for people who pee the bed. they use it in old people homes and nurserys. I used to feed a cat and he would always spray before he left. He was marking the territory. I used that spray and it always went away.
You need to get something with enzymes in it. I get something at my local Wal-mart called Pet Stain and Odor remover, it is made my a company called OUT!

What can I do to entertain my Hamsters?

I have two Hamsters. A male Syrian, Duke. Who is very loving and cuddly, but can be very perky. Then there is Avril, and perky Russian Dwarf Hamster, who is extremely, extremely vibrant; very, very perkyand hyper! I get them out to play, and hold them, exct. But I'm not sure if they are entirely entertained and whatnot. I love them to death, and want them to have goods lives. Any ideas for playing with them. The only thing specific I do is let them climb the stairs, and go up and down. And let them roll in their rolling bal around the house. I'm afraid they are gettign bored. I seriously think Avril is hyper-active. She is busy 24%26#92;7. What can I do to keep her intertained?
Answers:
Honestly hamsters don't get bored they are content with just paper towel rolls and a wheel in there cage to run. Hamsters love to play. Just take him out and let him run around your lap and where you are sitting. (Make sure that there are no hights from him to fall from)

Get him an exercise ball, they absolutley love these, and make sure you let him exercise in it every day.

When you take him out offer him treats everytime, a liitle fresh fruit or veg, nuts. yogurt drops etc... He will love you for it!! Have fun.
Sweet! I have had so many of them in my life!
Well, give them a wheel, wooden is best b/c it wont squeak as much, get all sorts of things they can explore, I like to feed mine sour cream and carrots, raisons, pretzels, bunches of safe people food! As long as you hold them every once in a while, they should be alright. have fun!
give them a kitchen towel roll.
empty of course.
but my hamster, Freddy, loved it.
give them healthy treats, buy more cages, and a bunch of tunnels they can roam around in
Of course, the ultimate hamster toy is a paper towel/toilet paper tube. Cut holes the size of the opening of the tubes and join them together. They will love it.
give the paper towel tubes, different flavored treats (mine love being taste testers), get little ladders for them to climb...see if the dwarf can do monkey bars, mine that died last year was like an olymian monkeybarist... :D

Here is a website that gives you procedures and dosage rates for wormers... http://www.tennesseemeatgoats.com/articl...

They suggest ivermectin, which is what we use also.

We have also used the "white" wormers they talk about like Safeguard Goat Dewormer liquid also. The dosage rate for those is 2.9 ml orally per 125 lbs body weight
your goat is probably not getting the right hay grain mix
my goats get 1 cup twice a day and 1 flake hay twicw day with fresh water every 6 hrs
most likely its worms. there are tons of sites to learn about the different kinds of worms and how to check for them. remember to rotate your wormers. its also good to check and see if your area has worms with a resistance to certain wormers. also you can take a poo sample to the vet to see what kind they have and how big the load is. ALWAYS when in doubt call the vet.

it can also be a change in diet. that includes newly growing spring plants or things coming from trees.

What breed should I get?

I currently have an appy who I have to retire due to old age, I have been riding him in pony club for quite a time and now i have joined my local jump club, my sport is showjumping and I want to go on with that for the rest of my life. What breed do you guys out there reckon I should get?
Answers:
Throughbreds are good horses, but here's a site that has different horse breeds:

http://www.ansi.okstate.edu/breeds/horse...

hope this helps!
i personally like Thoroughbreds. They like to go, go, go which comes in handy when you are jumping.
I own 2 now-- Stanley (TB, 7yrs, dark bay, jumps 6ft) and Shooter (mare, 5yrs, medium bay, jumps 5ft). I show them in hunter/jumper shows all the time and they love it.
I sold my other 8. :-( money

but i could keep 2... i have to pay for EVERYTHING. and i love Stan and Shooter as they were the first horses i ever had, and we really work together.

Good luck, keep in touch!
love.malachai@yahoo.ca
It would be wise to buy a horse for its skill, NOT for its breed. Almost ANY breed can do show jumping, so find a horse that is big eough to do your level of jumping, clean and scopey eough to clear the jumps if you don't get to your jumping distance, and a proper age to handle the stress of that disipline.

What breed of horses did the thoroughbred originate from? My thoroughbred looks a lot like an arab in ways?

Answers:
All modern Thoroughbreds can trace their ancestry to one (or all three!) of the original sires... the Darley arabian, the Byerly Turk and the Godolphin Arabian.

Here is some info for you:
**************************
All modern Thoroughbreds carry the genetics of three stallions imported to England from the Middle East in the late 17th and early 18th centuries: the Darley Arabian, to whom 95% of today's Thoroughbred pedigrees trace, the Godolphin Arabian, also known as the Godolphin Barb (Because this horse was born in Morocco, there is some dispute among historians whether this horse was a true Arabian or a Barb. However, based on paintings from life, the stallion was clearly Arabian in type; a Barb is built differently), and the Byerly Turk (who may have been a Turkoman Horse rather than an Arabian), together with around 35 mares. There are also other horses of oriental breeding that have been less of an influence but are still noteworthy. These include the Unknown Arabian, the Helmsley Turk, the Lister Turk and Darcy's Chestnut.

********************

That is why your horse carries some Arabian characteristics...
All horses can be traced back to arab ancestory so it should not be surprising if your four legged friend looks like one
You are right. Thoroughbreds originate from English mares and Arabian stallions.
The Thoroughbred is a horse breed best known as a race horse. While carefully bred racehorses had existed throughout Europe for centuries prior to this time, the breed as it is known today developed during the 17th century in England when English mares began to be bred to imported Arabian stallions. This addition of verifiable Arabian blood coincided with the creation of the General Stud Book of England and the practice of official registering of horses. Today all modern Thoroughbreds trace to these imported stallions.

Some individuals mistakenly refer to a purebred horse of any breed as a "thoroughbred." However, this is incorrect usage. The Thoroughbred is a unique, distinct breed of horse. The proper term for any horse that is a pedigreed animal of a single breed is always "purebred".
There were three arab horses that contributed to the thoroughbred - the Darley Arabian, the Gadolphin Arabian and the Byerly Turk - three stallions brought to Europe at the turn of the 17th century.

Thus you should occasionally see a dished faced thoroughbred.
Thoroughbreds directly relate back to the Arabian.
If you go to pedigreequiry.com (spelling sorry) you can trace your horse all the way back to the Arabian.

Actually my Thoroughbred and one of my Arabians have some same far far off relatives.

Most thoroughbreds are out of the Darley Arabian, i would look that up.

My ex racer TB, too looks like an Arab. The Thoroughbred originated from the Arabian because they are stream lined, sure footed, fast, durable and of course those big nostrils that allow them to take in more Air, something very important in the racing industry.
all thoroughbreds can retrace their ancestory to one of 3 arabs that where brought into the country agaes ago
Arabian probably. There is a quick way to check. Look closely on his back, and you should see a vestigial hump. That would confirm that he is of Arabian origin. All Arabs have the hump! So your horse looks like an Arab? Wow!

What Breed Is My Bunny?

Okay I got my bunny from the SPCA. My problem is I have know idea what breed he is. He is brown and white, and has large floppy ears. Here are some pictures of him, I hope they help.

Congrats on your bunny. You do have a lop but unsure what kind from the picture. Go to www.rabbit.org www.rabbitcentral.com or www.arba.net/photo.htm
Any of these sites will give you lots of information, photos and lead you to other sites for your bunny. If you want to make him a house bunny, the sites give you information on how to potty train also. It is very easy. We are beginning to teach ours to walk with a harness and lease right now
Looks like a Broken Fawn French Lop, to me.
http://www.petwebsite.com/picture_displa...
A French Lop rabbit will be over 12 lbs when it's grown. Is this rabbit full grown or a baby? If it's full grown, you have either a large Holland Lop, or a Mini Lop. Hard to tell from the photo. I'm leaning towards Mini Lop, cuz a Holland usually matures at around 4 lbs. Your rabbit looks like he's a 6-8 pound rabbit. He's cute. Congrats on adopting a rabbit from the Humane society.
MINILOP! 100% sure, i have friends who raise them
Broken Holland lop.
That's what it is. I Breed American fuzzy lops and worked with a Holland breeder.
Check out ARBA they will show you more about the breed.

He has the character broad face, lop ear and long chunky body.
French lops have longer ears.
Mini Lop!

Holland lops which I breed are not more then 4 pounds.
Broken tort is the colour!
He is deffinetly a lop eared rabbit, but there is no way to tell by just picture exactly what breed he is. If you really want to or need to know exactly what breed he is then it would be best to take him to a vet or a rabbit show for the pro's to define his breed.

hope i help.cute bunny by the way..he seems like a tame friendly rabbit...have fun with him

What breed for a little girl?

my aunt sees that a rabbit is a good pet i know plenty of things about care and feed i want to know what breed would be good for her she is 6 has a little sister that is 1 year old and a little brother that is 5 (he is consisdered a brother) they want a baby bunny half the size of a florida white i really need help with this because they want to get it next week end
Answers:
A rabbit who is well cared for will probably live 8-12 years, possibly even longer. Therefore, instead of thinking about what breed of rabbit is best for children aged 6, 5, and 1 years, it may be better to think about what breed of rabbit will still suit the family when the children are aged 18, 17, and 13 years. Because children often lose interest in rabbits by the time they reach their teen years, it would be a good idea for your aunt to choose a rabbit SHE will be happy taking care of for 8-12 years or longer.

If there's a chapter of the House Rabbit Society in the area your aunt lives in, she will probably be able to get recommendations from a House Rabbit Society representative for specific rabbits who are good with children of all ages. If you e-mail me with the location, I can check and see if there's a chapter nearby.
baBY BUNNIES ARE GREAT
maybe a dwarf rabbit.
I would suggest a holland lop or mini lop- stay away from the netherland dwarfs, in my experience they are often moody and nasty, despite their small size. Mini rexes are good too.
Rabbits are okay pets but they can be really feisty. Just so u know. and if you're looking for a smaller breed, dwarfs run very small!!! Also the first bun I ever went out to adopt was at the Humane Society, I was just looking for some breed of rabbit and found little Molly to be absolutely adorable. She was aging but still had a lot of spunk to her I guess, cause when I took her out to get "aquainted" in the play-room she hopped right into my lap and let me pet her and hold her. It was the sweetest thing.. Rabbits really don't like to play much though keep that in mind. They are very fragile, high strung and sensitive. The dwarfs are very friendly but remember they are very, very small and extremely fragile. I wouldn't advise a young child to care for a small rabbit, UNLESS she is supervised with the bun at all times.

-post above mentions dwarfs to be moody. I've had 2 diff ones and they were most definately very sweet and charming. I also kept a mini-lop and she was nice but we're talking about children here, the cute-factor wears off more quickly with lops and dwarfs seem to have that perma-baby-cuteness about them... well good luck in finding the right one

What brands use animal testing?

and which ones 100% DO NOT use animal testing?
Answers:
Peta.org has a great resource for this info -

http://www.caringconsumer.com/resources_...

This link is actually a link I found on their site.

If you go to Wal-Mart or Target, most of the brands they carry (in terms of cosmetics and chemicals) do in fact test. What many people don't know is that there are only a few large companies that put out the many many brands we see on shelves. For example, if you go to the laundry detergent aisle and look on the boxes, you'll see that the major companies are Proctor and Gamble and Unilever even though there are a bunch of brand names. These two companies are notorious for animal testing, as are Gillette, Johnson and Johnson, Colgate Palmolive, and Dial.

An animal-friendly brand that is carried by Target (and other stores) is Method. They make home cleaners, body washes, and detergent. They do NOT animal test, and I love their products. Check them out at http://www.methodhome.com.

Also, most of the cosmetics lines at major stores (not department stores, but the ones like Wal-Mart) do animal test as well. Revlon and Almay do not. Loreal is said to be the most evil animal tester in the make-up industry.
If the bottle doesn't say that they don't test then they most likely do. Procter and Gamble sell the most and they definately do test. Aussie doesn't test. This website will tell you for every product in your home! http://www.navs.org/site/pageserver?page...
To list what brands do would be endless because most cosmetic manufacturers use animal testing at some point, if not for the evaluation of a finished product for the possible reactions or health risks of its ingredients; sometimes performed by the same company or a third party.

DO NOT trust cosmetics that claim not to have used animal testing. If you don't have the time and resources to investigate for yourself, which I assume you don't, then just go to PETA web site for as radical as they are, and I'm sure they work hard to identify who does or does not animal test (for real!!). Also the Humane Society Of the United States, and my final advice is to check out The Coalition for Consumer Information on Cosmetics, and buy only from companies listed there.

I'd rather feed political and social power to the Coalition than taking any chances to support (indirectly) animal testing on cosmetics! or not use make up at all, like I usually do.

ostrich but many people claim that its a thunder bird some people say they dont exist but some claim they see them
Depends on if you are going by wingspan, flightless birds, or what. Condors are probably the largest flying birds.

If you are interested in crypto-zoology, there cases being made for the Thunderbird which apparently was the size of a small plane. There are accounts as recent as the 1980's in Illinois alone of those types of sightings.

And for fun, look up Piasa Bird. ( pronounced Pie ah saw) from Alton Illinois. That reportedly was the last of the pterosaurs. Fun to look at that.
Nandu is a large, flightless bird

Well since my kitties were adopted since they were 1 day-old [ they've been abandoned :'-( ], they grew up among humans, with few contact with other kitties! Even if I know it's hard to part with instincts, I can't help thinking they consider us( my family) as their role models! More so because they are always by my side, whatever I'm doing! So , I guess they're thinking that:

" We have to pay attention to what mom is doing, we'll have to do the same when we're grown up." lolz

That's why they can't help jumping on the computer desk, and follow closely as I'm typing.

Maybe when I dress up to go to uni, they're like, "that sucks, we'll have to go to school when we grow up, we won't be able to lay around all day."

Maybe when they portray themselves in the future, they think of themselves as standing on 2 legs, all dressed up, talking etc.

But hey, this is just my imagination going wild, how I wish they could talk though, I'm sure they'd be much more sensible!!!

What are your experiances with fostering animals from the humane society?

Answers:
I usually end up adopting my foster dogs. I am the director of my own rescue though. I have some wonderful people who foster for me.
I learned to look for traits that showed the pets I selected were still reachable.

A good book to help you get a dog back into good behavior and healthy spirits is, "No Bad Dogs, The Woodhouse Way."
I am a foster mom for Living Creatures Animal Sanctuary. Currently I have three adult cats living with me. LCAS is a small rescue group, we believe that a pet living in a barn or garage, but still part of a family is better than being in a cage or being put to death. So all three of my cats are in my barn with my horses. A lot of rescue groups are much stricter though, they require the animal be inside a home all the time. So be sure to ask about that! Also, ask who will provide the food. We are given a food allowance-free pet food for our personal pets and the foster pets, as long as they don't go over so many pounds a month. Our rescue has very little money so we only do vaccinations no other unnecessary care (like spaying %26 neutering). I enjoy being a foster mom, but it is work. Some of the cats have problems, one throws up if he eats a lot!! So thats something I have to deal with! Also adults don't get adopted very easily and they are with you a long time.

Check out www.myspace.com/whisperingpine...
to see some of my foster pets:)

More foster parents are always needed... it's a good cause.
Well I am fostering a pregnant cat from a cat rescue right now. I never knew how overwhelemd rescue %26 humane societies get until I saw all the cats/kittens the place had. It makes me angry because people don't spay %26 neuter their pets.
I haven't directly fostered but I have filled out an application to do it but never sent it in because of three hard to deal with things that I learnt from the humane society I was going to be working with:
*My husband can't take the emotional side of letting the animal go
*The fact that you could be fostering a dog or cat that will be spayed even if pregnant and a good way along in the pregnancy
*The fact that you could be fostering a dog or cat that within a certain time limit may need to be returned for euthanasia.

Fostering takes a person with a heart of gold and a heart of steel. I take my hat off to those of you who have done it and continue to provide help to needy animals.
I have fostered kittens and rats. I found out that fostering isn't for me. It KILLED me to let them go, even though they went to good homes!

From now on if I bring an animal into my house, it's here to stay.
It's an expremely good cause, and they always need more foster parents. But the hard part is letting the animal go.

The last question was- what is a good horse for a family with kids... she said a "pretty horsie" and that was voted best answer..

is this raspberryswirrrl's other account so she can build up her rating?

leeluu2000, dingledop and millymoo2000- if you look at all of their resolved questions- raspberryswirrrl is best answer. every single one.

Like the horse question- What is the best horse for a family with kids... she was voted best answer for saying a pretty horsie even though she got 3 thumbs down.

FRAUD FRAUD FRAUD!!

Its wrong to pad your rating by faking accounts and rating yourself best answer

And your resource "I'm a vet" what vet gives the answer "A pretty horsie"

Its in the rules that you can't claim to be a professional if you're not.

What are we feeding our pets?

I've noticed a trend going on for awhile of adding veggies to dog food (Beniful comes to mind) and last night saw a TV ad for a cat food with veggies. I'd been taught cats and dogs are carnivores. They will eat grass but as a digestive aid. Before we had bagged and canned food, they would have gotten table scraps from their owners and what they caught themselves for food. And I'm fairly sure no self-respecting cat would stalk a stalk of celery. Anyone know what gives? This a cheap filler like the grains?
Answers:
It's nothing more then sales gimics. People fall for this kind of thing.. Wholesome fruits and veggies. Sounds good to most people but what they don't realize is that it is nothing more then what you said.. useless filler.
It amazes me how or why people find that feeding a dog or cat cereal it's entire life is perfectly OK, just because some commercial dog food company says so. Those same people would never try to feed a horse steaks and hamburgers becaus they know it is not species appropriate. It has become far to acceptable to feed dogs this way just because it is convenient.
If people would take the time to realize that all the commercials and the Purina we grew up with is all a bunch a brain wash BS and take the time to learn what is really in pet foods, they might change how they care for their animals. People tend to be pretty lazy though and just accept what they see on TV as some kind of gospel.
Dogs and cats ARE carnivores and although very hearty creatures... should not be made to live a life on dried up pieces of god knows what day in and day out their entire lives. NO species on the planet eats that way.. NO SPECIES ON THE PLANET EATS THAT WAY. yet people seem to think nothing of forcing it on their dogs and cats.
I would ask people who think this is all well and good to eat box after box of Total Cereal for ten years with nothing else and let us know how they feel. Everything you need is in there.. so why not?
Your hair might even still shine which is another huge deception. People tend to think that if an animals coat is all shiny then the food is good.. ALL kibble foods are sprayed with fat as a preserevative and to make the food taste good. The fat is why the coat is shiney, not the nutrition which by the way is 100% in synthetic form since all of the original nutrition in the ingredients have been cooked out in the kibble making process. ALL ingredients are a powder and must be in order to go through the extruder machines that make the shapes of the food.
The original nutrition is lost in the process and this is why there is a huge list of vitamins and minerals added in at the bottom of the ingredient list. Those are not there because the company cares a litle extra. It is added in because if it wasn't there would be NO nutrition at all.
We feed RAW and are huge advocates and help several people a year make the switch. We love it, the dogs love it and the people we help love it too!

actually the grains in dog and cat food arent just cheap fillers they provide needed nutrients to your dog. adding veggies is just trying to help your dog have a better healthier balanced diet.
and as a person who buys grain in bulk- its not cheap at all.
I just avoid cat food for my cat anymore since the whole pet food scare. She only gets tuna, chicken, rice, salmon, that kind of thing, and I give her a daily vitamin mixed in her food.
Haha, that's what I said. This past weekend, I went to go buy some canned puppy food and it came with carrots and peas and it was called Chicken Stew or something like that. I was like "what?". Sometimes I think it's dumb and sometimes not because it could be helping the animals. We still give our dogs table scraps. People now domesticate their dogs too much. What if the dog were to run away? It would have no sense of hunting or would be very picky in what to eat. You never know what could happen. Veggies is a kind of weird food to put in dog food.
You're right, it is cheap filler. Dogs and cats don't need veggies. It's all about profits for the pet food manufacturers, not the health of our individual pets. Look at the melamine contamination debacle.

I wonder how long it will be until the pigs and chickens that ate the discarded and resold pet food that was contaminated are turned into pet food.
I believe they are cheap fillers too. I feed my dogs Chicken Soup for the Soul. The first 4 ingredients are meat. A lot of people feed their dogs raw or barf these days. And they don't add veggies to their diet at all. I've never seen a dog raid a corn field!!
im not exteremyl intelligent when it comes to labels(my sis is) but i defintly no what u mean when u say its gotten worse over the years. there used to be a wide choice of dog food that was meeting all dogs nutrition needs. now u have to have read a lot about labels and crap in books to rlly no what is sposed to be on the labels and what foods are secretly "bad", the companies r getting cheaper...

What are the signs of heat stroke in rabbits?what do i do when this happens?

i'm not sure if my rabbit has heat stroke.but i have to make sure especially its summer and its sooo~~~~ hot!!
Answers:
Bunnies don't pant but will during a heat stroke usually fall over and disoriented. You will need to keep him in the coolest place inthe house and plenty of fluids. If you see signs of heat stroke beginning sit next to the open refridgerator till you can get him settled and then take him to the vet
plenty of shade and water u will know if it has it will pass out or get real sick
Bunnies with heat stroke will become very lethargic ad disoriented. If you believe your bunny is suffering from heat stroke, please take it to a vet! You can mist the ears with a spray bottle of cool water to try to bring her temperature down.

Heat stroke is very easy to prevent, even in the hot summer months. Make sure your bunny always has access to water, is always out of direct sunlight and put a fan on indirectly hitting the cage to increase air flow. Fans are one of the cheapest electrical appliances to run and will really improve the air flow and temperature in the room. On the especially hot days, I put a frozen water bottle wrapped in some paper towels in my bunny's cage. She will lay and lean against it and it will keep her nice and cool. Also, Home Depot and other home supply stores sell pieces of tile and marble, which they can also lay on and it will remain cool.
Any disorientation, stretching out and looking weak.

To prevent: store frozen water bottles in your freezer- when it gets hot outside, put the frozen water bottle in the cage- they will lay right up against it- and if they want, they can chew through and get the ice water out (most do not chew, but some do). You also want plenty of shade and a breeze.

What are the responsibilities of a Veterinary Assistant? Salary?

And do they have to clean up the poop?
Answers:
I am a veterinary technician. Pretty much everyone, in our office, has to clean up poop. Even the vet does, from time to time. We also have to clean up vomit, blood, and urine. An assistant's duties will vary from clinic to clinic. Generally, assistants will answer phones, file charts, clean, and help restrain animals. Some clinics allow assistants to draw blood, run lab tests, etc. but, those are usually considered technician's duties.
Yes, they clean poop. The job can vary from clinic to clinic.
Yes they clean up the poop. I take it by assistant you mean an animal assistant and not actually a qualified vet or nurse. I am a qualified nurse in the UK and we can do loads of things including small lump removals and stitch ups. We run nurse clinics, do bandaging, give advice, etc. The nursing wage is not great though so an animal assistant would be even less.
vet assistant duties: animal restraint while vet treats animals, assisting in surgery, preparing animals for surgery (shaving, sterilizing, etc.) cleaning and sterilizing surgical instruments, animal dentistries, giving injections, vaccinations, running lab tests (FELV testing, etc), running stool samples and looking for worms under a microscope, making up prescriptions, interacting with clients, giving them directions on care of pets, and OF COURSE, no pet hospital job is complete without kennel duties.cleaning up after pets, this includes poop and other unmentionables, cleaning cages, feeding pets, medicating pets, etc. Pay varies depending on where you work..but it is usually not much.

What are the pros and cons of immunizing your pet?

the vet found a tumor in my cats belly, i dont know what to do. im unsure if i can pay for it to have surgery. i feel like i should let it live out its life, because who knows it could live a while longer. im not sure what to do here. If the time comes and it does start suffering really bad should i immunize it? I dont know how to feel about this.is that considered doing gods work?let me know the good %26 the bad points of this
Answers:
I think you mean euthanize, not immunize.

Anyways, if the animal is in pain, and suffering, then its the best thing to do. Doing god's work or not, you shouldn't let your pet suffer needlessly.

If your cat isn't in pain, then you can let it live out its last days with you. I think the only reason to have an animal euthanized is when its quality of life is so low that there is no other choice. Its the most humane thing to do in those circumstances.
I am assuming you mean euthanise not immunise.
My daughter is a Vet Nurse and has told me that death by euthanasia is extremely peaceful. When I say euthanasia I am refering to euthanasia by lethal injection done by your local vet. If your pets tumour gets so advanced it is causing the cat pain it is better to let it die peacefully than suffer an excruciating death.

What are the pros and cons of having a hedgehog as a pet?

Answers:
Pros- They are cute, pretty calm, dont bite (usually), when properly handled they are friendly, they are fun to watch and can be playful. They don't smell as strongly as other small animals (if kept clean).

Cons- Broken legs are very common, and they are less hardy than other small animals, these things lead to vets bills and vets that work with hedgies are hard to find. They have spines that can prick, but they dont hurt that bad. They are noctournal (this can be a plus though if you stay up most nights). They can also get things such as mites but they arn't 'full of fleas' like someone above said..

If you get a hedgehog buy from a breeder to ensure a healthy and friendly hedgie, if you buy from a pet store it is possible to still get a nice animal, just it will need more handeling and may have more health issues. Also hedgehogs can be perfectly happy in captivity as long as you care for it correctly. They are harder to take care of than animals like rats, hamsters, or guinea pigs, but they do make nice pets.
he'll eat all the slugs in your garden
They are a wild animal , hard to feed , full of fleas generally and it would be cruel to isolate it from other Hogs and also depriving it of the opportunity to breed
It will bite you and give you rabies.
I own two hedgehogs and I can tell you that they are wonderful pets. Pros are, hedgehogs don't smell, they're very loveable despite the quills, and they're very funny when they're wheeling away in their wheels. They do require some patience sometimes until they get used to you. Really, in my opinion, the only real cons about hedgehogs is you do get poked by their quills sometimes and get bit. Like rats/hamsters/mice have to becareful with food on your hands/scented soaps/etc. The other thing is you may have research vets in your area. Just because they're a small animal vet doesn't mean they deal with hedgehogs. If you're interested in further information, I've included a link to a wonderful website with tons of information on hedgehog diets, health, etc.
From previous answers, seems people are confusing european hedgehogs(illegal in u.s) with african pygmy hedgehogs.
they dont take up much room and there quite clean

What are the options to burying my wife horse?

This is going to be the most difficult thing i have ever done, having two young children is easy. My father in law bought my wife this amazing bright white arab horse call dollar on her 1st birthday. That will make dollar 32 years old, he is fit as a fiddle, i rent a 3 acre field so burying him their is not an option. Please advise also dollar has a friend for more then 26 years old her name is fudge, can you also advise. Unfortunately buying another horse isn't the option.
Answers:
I am so sorry these things are aways hard. When it comes time to euthanize Dollar and fiddle, or they go on their own, In most places burying your horse in your yard is illegal, but most people do it anyway, just get a trusted friend or neighbor with a backhoe to dig you a hole in the middle of the day when no one is around, lots of farmers where I live have let neighbors bury their horses in their pastures and on the edges of their cornfields because they did not have enough land. If you live in a tight community and one of your neighbors will rat you out, composting is legal, if your manure pile is big enough the remains will be gone within 18 to 24 months. Again maybe a local farmer will let you use their manure or compost heap. Also cremation is an option, but a bit pricey and difficult as the horse's remains must somehow be transported there, but I understand you are limited to the options available in your area. Call your vet and ask, they may be able to help you.
Check with regulations where you live (where do you live?!?!). I know a friend of mine here in Missouri whose horse was struck by freak lightning was able to rent a backhoe to dig the hole. Others have used the front end loaders of their tractors to somewhat dig holes when the ground was wet. Some local backhoe companies may also be able to be hired to dig. You may want to call in advance to see if they can do this.
Edit- sorry, did not see that you rent the 3 acres. Maybe look into a pet cemetary. I've seen several that will allow horses. You could also look into any farm friends letting you bury him there. The poster after me had a good idea as well. Have you talked to the owner of the 3 acres? You say burying is not an option, but the owner may if you ask and are planning on continuing to rent. Especially if you take care of the expenses of the burial and the reseeding of the area of the field.
If it were my horse (and I did use to have one), I would cremate it, and take it to a field where other horses roam, and spread its ashes there.
I wish you luck, it a difficult time.
First of all, my condolences to you on the incredibly difficult situation you are facing and the choice you must make. It sounds as though you need to check around and see if there is some other place where you can lay Dollar to rest, since you don't own the field where he and his companion currently live. I would ask your vet, your farrier, the people you rent the land from, your feed and hay suppliers, if they know of anyone who would be willing to allow to you to bury your old friend on their property. I would also check with the local health and public works department in your area to be sure that the disposal of animal carcass ( I know that is a brutal term to use when I'm probably talking about yours and your wife's best friend, and I'm sorry to have to say it) on private property isn't prohibited by law. Most communities have regulations concerning this in place to protect public health and safety. Another option, if you can't find anyone willing to allow a private burial, is cremation- but I can tell you that this is quite expensive to do, and even then, there are rules that govern where and how the ashes can be stored and disposed of. This process will save you time and space, and it will eliminate the worry about what to do with Dollar once he crosses the Rainbow Bridge. Still another option is to send the carcass ( there's that ugly word again) to the nearest rendering plant to be turned into glue, or to the taxadermist to be stuffed. And lastly, I can think of one other option, which I know you probably will not consider ( I know I wouldn't unless I had no other choice) and that is to send the horse to an auction before he dies. As for Dollar's companion, perhaps you can get another animal, such as a goat, to keep her company after he is gone. I commend you for making plans now, while both horses are still in reasonably good health- this will make things somewhat easier on you when the time comes. I wish more horse owners had the foresight to do what you are doing- this world would be a better place if that was true.
Have Dollar cremated. You can keep the ashes in a nice urn. Also ask if they can save your wife one of his shoes, or a small piece of his tail/mane, its a nice senimental thing to have.

For the other horse, if getting a second horse isn't an option try getting a large older goat. This horse will need company, horses are not happy alone. Some goats make good companions, they are cheap and easy to care for, but they escape easily. Make the goat where a dog collar and tag incase it gets out. Also make sure you get a goat that is not overly attached to people. Get one that has been raised around other animals. I had one that was bottle raised and it would never stay with the horses, it would always try and find people. You can also get an old donkey. They are lower maintinance than a horse, cheaper, and are very sweet animals. Donkeys are sturdy animals, and very hardy, plus they are great company to horses. Don't get a cow as a companion, this almost never works out well. I have heard of people getting llamas as companion animals, but I would figure that a llama would take the same ammount of time and money to care for as a donkey...

You could also offer to share the rent of the land with another horse owner. This would lower costs for you, and give the remaining horse a friend.

What are the names of the queens corgis?

Answers:
I dont know the date for this page:
"Some of the animals associated with the Royal Family are quite common. The Queen is famous for having many dogs. In total, The Queen has 14 dogs: seven corgis (Emma, Linnet, Rush, Minnie, Monty, Willow and Holly), two dorgis (Cider and Berry) and five cocker spaniels (Bisto, Oxo, Flash, Spick and Span)."
I love this breed.

I know she had a Pembroke named Pharos who was killed by Princess Anne's dog in 2003 which devastated her.

Swift, Emma and Linnet I think are (or were) the other dogs names.

What are the jumper round rules?

Okay so i have been riding for a long time but i have only rode in the hunter/jumpers. Well now i am moving up into the jumpers at 2'9" and i dont know the rules. Is there a special guideline on how to do things or what? If you know ANYTHING on this please help and go through it step by step thanks!
Answers:
jumpers is alot more about speed, u have to find the quickest ways to get to a jump- sharp turns and goin fast!!! It is not so much as lookin really good as in hunter/jump (leads, diagonals, and slower prancy-er thangs) it is more of a speed and enderance thing. then somtimes there is a second round that is timed!!! Good Luck! Right now i do hunter/jump but have looked into jumping!!!
Definitely watch your speed - you need to go faster for jumpers. Don't neglect the hunter part though, because a downed rail is still worse than time faults. Know where your start and finish lines are - if you miss your lines, then you will be eliminated or rack up time faults.

Best of luck!
Im thinking your from the UK or America, but if your from AUstralia, then tahts great, as im clued up on the AUstralian rules. I think they are similar, but dont go with my word.

As for the guidlines, Jumping, as you probably already know, is not all about speed, compared to Hunting, if you go too fast then you have a more likely chance to knowck the rail or to resfuse. As you pregress higher, speed does come down to a first compared to a 4th, but as you get higher, skill is a lareg factor also. You already know about the short and long release, regarding take off, well, as you get higher, the release becomes longer.

If your from the UK, i would suggest going onto Wiki, com, and searching for a guy named Edge, he would have a good idea about teh rules in UK, and could suggest some good places to find information about jumping, as he is affiliated.

If in America, then i could only suggest searching in search engines and perhaps looking up local jump clubs and organisations.

If in Australia, thats easy, just search EFA or any other organisation and proceed to look for jumping.

I hope this helps and good luck with your jumping, i dont have to tell you how much of a thrill it is.

Good luck

P.S. Much of the time, USa, Uk and Aust. information inter relates its self, so you can be almost sure that one set of rules wil be similar to another.
There is usually 3 rounds for all level jumpers.
None of which matters what the horse nor rider looks like as long as they don't knock down any fences and completes the course with-in the specified time allowance.
Check with your cities local hunter/jumper associations, and down load rule books and class descriptions as there are many levels.
There is a HUGE difference between Hunter classes and jumper classes.

What are the effects of pet overpopulation?

Besides the obvious of millions of pets without a home and put down each year, what are the other effects associated with this problem? Thanks!
Answers:
The money.
State and local resources are strained enough trying to take care of kids and old folks (among other things). Every dime spent on an unwanted animal is money not spent making their lives better. Or running safety checks on bridges, or hiring another police officer, or teacher.

Shelter pets and strays are usually sick. They are "breeding grounds" for diseases that could infect the entire population of animals. Or mutate into something truly dangerous. (think bird flu) This is especially true of feral cats.

Pollution.
Both when the animals are alive and once they are killed in shelters. All living beings eat and produce waste, 'nuff said on that.
Dead animals are a whole problem in themselves. What do you do with 7,000 (average for the large city where I live) dead animals?

Strays distroy things. Dogs maul people, and other animals. Cats pee everywhere! They are a health and safety hazard. Not only to people, but ecosystems and the environment as well. The adverage housecat will kill native birds, reptiles, and anything else they can get. But that's not limited to just strays.
thats it i guess!!those 2 only!!!i think!sory not much help
Animal abuse/neglect is another effect. There are so many people who don't think of dogs/cats as living beings. They're disposable. They are just a source of income (e.g. puppy mills, dog fighters) or an outlet for their deviant behavior. Lots of stray animals are abused by kids. They're chased, harassed, beaten, and much worse. Puppy mill dogs live in deplorable conditions. Then, there are those poor dogs that are used for fighting. God knows what they are put through.
