What are the best things you can feed a rat??

and what should they absoluteley not be fed? how long do they live?
Answers:
Pet shop available rat food is the best thing to feed your rat on. Something like rat muesli or rat nuggets from Petsmart contain all the nutrients your rat will need, as well as help to keep his/her teeth worn down. Stick with petsmart because random pet shops tend to have bags labeled 'rat food' that you can't be sure what they are. Nuggets are better because they avoid the rat picking out the bits of food they like and missing out on nutrients. I like to feed a mixture of mix and pellets, to stop them getting bored while still getting all their nutrients.

Stay away from soft fruits, particularly strawberries and grapes with rats. Chocolate is also very bad! You'll find rats will eat absolutely anything, doesn't mean it's good for them. Best to stick to rat food only, and buy rodents treats for them instead of giving them human food.

Rats live around 2-3 years, no longer than hamster really.

Chalice
feed them poison, bleck, they are nasty rodents
cheese??? jk how about rat food pellets?
A slice of chese!!!
Nutro natural choice lite. Its a dry dog food. Rats love it.
Don't feed them chocolate. They live approx. 3 yrs.
Rats are omnivores---like us. Feed it a mainly vegetarian diet, plus seeds, nuts, and rabbit pellets. If you feed it meat too often, its feces might smell too much.
Rats in the wild live about 1-2 years. Pet rats can live about 6 years.

What are the best breeds for vaulting horses?

Answers:
Usually percherons are used, though I have seen plenty of mixed breeds (draftcrosses, mixed draft breeds, etc)
Basically you want a wide SMOOTH horse with a rhythmic canter and smooth trot. If you are just getting into vaulting, bring your trainer with you to pick out a good horse. Vaulting is not something you want to teach yourself- it is dangerous when not done correctly.
The question should be type not breed. Not all horses of one breed would be suitable.

Vaulting horses are generally drafts, draft cross or heavyweight hunters with a good smooth action and rhythm. Shires and shire cross might be good. They can do well at dressage.
I see a lot of Belgian Drafts, Clydesdales, and Percherons being used.

Most importantly you want a horse that is calm, quiet, and steady. Typically you can't have a riding horse switch back and forth between under saddle work and vaulting because the riding horse would respond to the leg pressure given by the vaulters rather than the commands of the person lunging.

And that's all I really know about vaulting.
We actually have two vaulting horse's at my NARHA facility.

A Clydesdale named Houdini and an Arabian named Sir Dar.

Drafts or cold tempered horses are the best. Sir Dar does great even though most people assume Arabians are all hot tempered.

Really any horse that is sound, quite, and an overall bombproof or "baby-sitter" type of horse can be used. Just be sure that the weight of the vaulter isn't going to injure or in anyway make the horse uncomfortable.
a large horse would be easy to stand on because of its broad back. it might be better to find a shorter one that has a broad back just so it would be easier to get on and off. draft horses mxed with another docile but shorter breed would be a good choice for temperament, size, and stability.

What are the advantages of having a cat instead of a dog?

Answers:
Cats don't need to be walked everyday.
Hei ya.A cat loves to sleep while a dog loves outdoor activity with you.
Cats walk themselfs. Dogs don't

cats will only learn miniumum commands ( mine fetch a toy mouse and bring it back to my hand)

Dogs will learn dozens of commands.

personal choice,
I believe dogs needs more attention than cats. What can you give?
a cat needs a lot less attention - not just by nature, but they dont have to be walked every day, most dont need as much general grooming, they dont need as much training..

Im still definitely a dog person though... they give back so much more - cats just seem to take and rarely show any actual emotion or personality.
.
Cat are leaner so there is a lot less fat and gristle than on a dog. easier to skin as well I would think
think of it like this. getting a dog is like having a child
a cat is like getting a roommate
depends on your time and patience you are able to give
cats are more laid back you dont have to let them out every couple of hours and they dont beg for table scraps they dont bark and theyre not as "clingy" they become protective over certain indeviduals they aren't as hectic as dogs in large groups
cats are a low maintanance pet. feed it ,let it out ,and love it
I love dogs as well as cats, but I now have 4 cats. They are a lot less demanding; you don't have to let them out to potty and they don't need to be walked. They can be left alone in the house all day or for a few days at a time (I always have someone come to feed them).

Cats aren't quite as affectionate as dogs, but they are loyal and loving. My hubby's "pet" cries when he leaves the house in the morning and waits for him at the door at night. Hubby rescued him after he was dumped off behind a grocery store at only 3 weeks old and the cat thinks that he is his "mom/dad". We both love him to pieces, but he does prefer hubby.

Cats are funny to watch; each has their own little signature habits and moves. They like to sleep a lot.

Until I am retired, I will remain a cat person. Then I plan on getting a boston terrier. In addition to my cats, of course.
I always say you don't own a cat they own you. I have both cats and dogs. All cats require is a meal and a place to keep warm. They are independent little devils and can take care of them self. When they want to be petted they come to you other then that they want to be left alone. Where dogs are just the opposite. The only time I see my cats is when they hear a can open up.. My dogs ae always with me.
Firstly a cat goes to the toilet by digging any burying it while a dog goes anywhere and you have to pick it up. A dog needs to be walked whereas a cat doesn't. A dog needs to be washed and a cat will clean itself. A dog will bark loudly while a cat quietly meows.
Sometimes cats prefer to be left alone and do well when you go to work for 6-9 hours. Dogs however would rather be with the family and can be destructive if left at home for any length of time.
It all depends on you and what you like and your own personality. If you are very active you should get a dog. If you're a homebody you're better of with cats. They are more independent. However, cats like to play too. But truthfully, they both require love and attention. Some people think that you can get a cat and as long as it has food and water that nothing else is needed. That is not true at all. They say that simply because they don鈥檛 want to spend time playing with the cat. Cats do enjoy human attention. However, if you do leave them alone, never touch them or play with them, then they will ignore you and stay away from you. This is not good for the cat. They need to be socialized even more than dogs. Dogs are friendly by nature but cats need a lot of attention or they become wild and unsociable. Don鈥檛 let this happen to your cat if you ever get one.

What are some safe veggies to feed to dwarf rabbits?

right now he's two months old.
Answers:
I'd suggest carrots and oranges. Oranges keep their coat healthy and shiny, if you're going to show him. I wouldn't advise lettuce because it can sometimes cause diahrea. Keep water to him at all times. Carrots also keep their teeth down. I don't feed my rabbits anything other than those. Alfalfa is a good hay to give, it keeps them meaty and strong. Timothy helps also.

Any other questions, just email me!
It is critical to give Timothy Hay to a rabbit. They will eat it and bed down with it. Even if you give your rabbit pellet food, it is crucial

Endive is a good leafy lettuce for them to eat as well.

Check the House Rabbit Society website or the Gainesville Rabbit Rescue website for more suggestions.
Here's a list of suitable veggies:
http://www.rabbit.org/care/veggies.html...

Basicallly, avoid soft fruits like strawberries and grapes, and carrot tops and iceberg lettuce. NOT oranges! No soft fruit!

75% of a rabbit's diet should be hay.

Chalice
Carrots (w/tops) in moderation, apple, raisins, broccoli, dark leafy greens, romaine or leaf lettuce in small amounts (NO ICEBERG), basil, wheat grass, white clover, pumpkin, pineapple (in small amounts, prevents hairballs), banana, peach, cherries, pear, dates.

I personally would not give a bunny alfalfa; it can cause stomach bloat if they eat too much. Timothy hay is much safer.
